Ax-2: Good morning; we're standing by for the Ax-2 Crew Dragon's undocking from the International Space Station at 11:05am EDT (1505 UTC), setting the stage for splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico south of Panama City at 11:04pm (0304 UTC) to close out a 9-day 5-hour mission

Cytuj
Ax-2: Commander Peggy Whitson, co-pilot John Shoffner and Saudi astronauts Ali Alqarni and Rayyanah Barnawi are the second commercial crew to visit the ISS representing Houston-based Axiom Space, which is laying the groundwork to build a commercial station later this decade

Ax-2: The crew is suited up, hatches between the Crew Dragon and the ISS are closed and the team is working through the final steps in the departure timeline to ready their ship for undocking

Ax-2: The undocking command has been issued; after power/data umbilicals retract, two sets of 6 motorized hooks will be opened and thrusters will fire the ship away from the Harmony module's space-facing

Ax-2: Undocking confirmed, at 11:05am EDT (1505 UTC); the Crew Dragon is pulling straight up and away from the Harmony module's zenith port

Ax-2: Steve Bowen to the departing Ax-2 crew: "It was a pleasure having yoy on board. We really appreciate all the hard work, and congratulations on an outstanding mission. ... We wish you calm seas and calm winds for your splashdown this evening. Take care. Fly safe."

Ax-2: SpaceX flight control says the Crew Dragon is in good shape after undocking and the initial departure burn; spacecraft is now out of the "keep out sphere" around the ISS; the crew has been cleared to doff their spacesuits and relax as the 12-hour journey home proceeds

Ax-2: The crew is gearing up for the deorbit burn at 10:14pm EDT (0214 UTC); the planned 12-minute 20-second burn will slow the Crew Dragon just enough to drop it out of orbit and put it on course for splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico south of Panama City, FL, at 11:04pm

SpaceX mission control just updated the Ax-2 crew, telling them there are no changes to the on-board timeline and "the vehicle is healthy, we are tracking no issues on board" (1/3)

Ax-2: The crew was told the SpaceX recovery ship Megan is on site in the landing zone south of Panama City and the weather appears ideal, with winds at 3 knots and low waves; NASA's WB-57 recon jet will also be on station to follow the Crew Dragon's descent to splashdown (2/3)

Ax-2: Crew Dragon commander Peggy Whitson: "Sounds like really great weather with low waves and everything. And it's cool the WB'S gonna be looking at us, too"

Ax-2: Deorbit ignition confirmed; this is a planned 12-minute 20-second burn, intended to slow the ship by 87 meters/second, or about 194 mph, just enough to drop it out of orbit for splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico at 11:04pm

Ax-2: Deorbit burn complete; good performance; nose cone closure in work; now 37 minutes from splashdown

Ax-2: Update from SpaceX mission control in Hawthorne, California: "Dragon is on time, on target, healthy and happy; we're tacking no issues and weather is still looking outstanding for splashdown." Peggy Whitson: "We are heading your way!"

Ax-2: SpaceX did not provide a re-entry graphic, but the Crew Dragon is expected to cross into the US over Washington state and descend along a southeasterly trajectory over Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana on the way to splashdown in the Gulf

Ax-2: Residents in southern Louisiana, Missisippi and the Florida panhandle may be able to see the Crew Dragon's plasma trail as the spacecraft endures temperatures up to 3,500 degrees Fahrenheit, blazing like a shooting star as it decelerates in the lower atmosphere

Ax-2: NASA's WB-57 tracking jet has picked up an infrared image of the Crew Dragon as it descends into the lower atmosphere; vehicle is still in a comms blackout due plasma buildups around the spacecraft

Ax-2: Now getting dramatic visible-light views of the spacecraft descending at the head of a flaming plasma trail; comms have now been restored; standing by for drogue chute deploy in about 1.5 minutes

Ax-2: Drogue chute deploy No. 1 confirmed

Ax-2: Main parachutes have deployed; all four appear fully inflated; SpaceX reports nominal descent rate; altitude: 1,000 meters

Ax-2: Splashdown confirmed! At 11:04pm EDT (0304 UTC), closing out a 9-day 5-hour commercial research mission

Ax-2: SpaceX flight to the Ax-2 crew: "On behalf of SpaceX, welcome home." Whitson to SpaceX: "That was a phenomenal ride! We really enjoyed all of it."

Cytuj
Ax-2: Peggy Whitson has now logged 675 days and 5 hours in space over 4 flights, moving her from 10th to 9th on the list of world's most experienced astronauts and cosmonauts; she has more time in space than any other American and the most of any female in the world
https://twitter.com/cbs_spacenews/status/1663745650247315456

Cytuj
Ax-2: The Crew Dragon is on the deck of the recovery ship Megan and the hatch is now open; the crew should be exiting momentarily

Ax-2: The Ax-2 crew members are now exiting the spacecraft, walking off under their own power - with a bit of help from support crews - as they get re-accustomed to gravity after nine days in orbit

Ax-2: All four crew members are now out of the spacecraft; they'll be flown back to the mainland aboard a helicopter for a longer flight back to Houston for debriefs and reunions with family and friends

W ramach przygotowań do misji załoga spędziła 5 dni w habitacie HERA.

To prepare for Ax-2 our crew spent 5 days in the HERA habitat at @NASA_Johnson. The compact, self-contained environment simulates many of the living conditions one can expect on Space Station including confined spaces, controlled resources, and communication delays. It was a very helpful experience to get a feel of living together while following a timeline in such a unique environment.

A year ago, Axiom 2 crew joined us on the ISS. We had a great time with astronauts Peggy Whitson, John Shoffner, Ali Alqarni and Rayyanah Barnawi, which also marked the 1st time 3 Arabs were in space together.
This was one of the most cherished memories of my mission.🤍
