08.11.2024  o 18:50 CET rozpoczął się trwający około 12,5 minuty manewr silnikowy (Δv~0,3 m/s) mający na celu podniesienie orbity ISS za pomocą statku CRS-31 Dragon2.
Wysokość perygeum wzrosła o około 110 metrów, a apogeum o 1,2 km.

Celem było przetestowanie modułu serwisowego statku kosmicznego i silników rakietowych w niestandardowym trybie pracy.
Są to informacje niezbędne do zaprojektowania statku kosmicznego USDV.
Przed piątkowym manewrem ISS obróciła się o 180° wokół osi Z i dwie godziny później powróciła do swojej pierwotnej orientacji.

CRS-31: As expected, the change in the station's orbit was minimal - a 7/100 of a mile boost at apogee and 7/10 of a mile at perigee - but the test showed the Dragon can, in fact, provide reboost capability; equally significant, the data will be fed into SpaceX's development of a new vehicle designed to drive the lab into the atmosphere for a safe breakup after it is retired in 2030 (2/2)

Native American Seeds Flown Aboard Space Station
International Space Station Research Communications Team Nov 12, 2024

The Choctaw Heirloom Seeds investigation flew five varieties of heirloom seeds from the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma aboard the International Space Station in early November 2023. The seeds are Isito (Choctaw Sweet Potato Squash), Tobi (Smith Peas), Tanchi Tohbi (Flour Corn), Tvnishi (Lambsquarter), and Chukfi Peas. The seeds spent six months aboard station, returning to Earth in April 2024.

Next spring, Jones Academy students will plant the space-flown seeds alongside Earth-bound seeds of the same type in the school’s Growing Hope Garden. Students will hypothesize how the seeds will grow and make observations throughout the growing season.

Middle school teachers are developing curriculum incorporating the seeds’ journey to space station and students’ experiments in the garden. This research could impact Native and Indigenous populations across the United States, inviting underrepresented groups to engage with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

On Nov. 23, the unpiloted Progress 90 resupply spacecraft successfully docked to the International Space Station’s Poisk module. After opening the Progress spacecraft's hatch, the Roscosmos cosmonauts noticed an unexpected odor and observed small droplets, prompting the crew to close the Poisk hatch to the rest of the Russian segment. Space station air scrubbers and contaminant sensors monitored the station’s atmosphere following the observation, and on Sunday, flight controllers determined air quality inside the space station was at normal levels. There are no concerns for the crew, and as of Sunday afternoon, the crew is working to open the hatch between Poisk and Progress while all other space station operations are proceeding as planned.

NASA confirms an "unexpected odor" issue aboard the ISS. Attempting to translate from the "official" language, it sounds like the hatch into Progress MS-29 is still closed:

The crew on the ISS noticed an odd smell during the Progress-29 hatch opening. Here is what we know so far, and a recording of the loops. The crew was never in danger.

This information is based on an update to the crew on the public ISS nets between -19:56 UTC on Nov. 23rd and subsequent discussions between NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Don Pettit with CAPCOM.

Summary:
- Russian cosmonauts noticed a smell while opening the Progress MS-29 hatch. Visual "drops" were also observed, they were unsure if the drops were residual fuel or something else
- Filters were started on the Russian segment (ROS) once the crew identified an issue
- MCC Houston started the Trace Contaminant Control Subassembly (TCCS) to remove potential contaminants from the air, Roscosmos started the ROS equivalent
- The issue was first reported to teams in Moscow when the crew opened the MRM-2 hatch (where Progress is docked) and saw "what looked like maybe some residual droplets before they opened the hatch to the Progress" (per CAPCOM)
- Following this, the Russian crew activated another scrubbing systems and donned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This additional system ran for 20-30 minutes
- A Russian crew member came down to the US segment (USOS), and noticed the smell when returning to the ROS
- It is unclear if the smell the Russian crew member noticed was interior cabin smell from Progress (IF the Progress hatch was open), the vestibule, or something else. But Houston's response would be the same either way
- Don Pettit initially noticed the smell in the Node 3 starboard hatch. He described it as "kinda like spray paint"
- Pettit could also smell other regular systems on the ISS such as the brine (urine) processor, so he assumed the irregular smell was just the process of converting urine to drinking water
- Node 3 is where air from the ROS initially enters the USOS, so it makes sense for that to be the first place US crew members noticed the smell

You’ve heard of an elf on a shelf, but what about a reindeer made from space gear? 🦌
NASA launches packages of cargo and research supplies to station year-round, unlike Santa's annual delivery. Today, station sent back experiments via Dragon (not reindeer) for further analysis on Earth.

The holidays are all about time spent with family and friends. This year, that celebration is bittersweet. While it's joyous to share this amazing opportunity to live in space with a truly remarkable crew, I deeply miss my family and friends on Earth.

When I think of the holidays, I think of dinners at Christmas, with family and friends gathered for a delicious meal and dessert! For me, it’s cookies. Sugar, mint chocolate, peanut butter; my Dad bakes some of the best on the planet. I wish I had some while I’m off the planet!
